In Chora you will see theVenetian castle and the medieval Tower of Gavras, which now hosts the archaeological museum. Also, the Monastery of Chozoviotissa, which was built in 1088 on a rock 300 meters above sea level and is the most important monument of the island. In Chora is also found the first High school in Greece after the revolution of 1821.
In Arkesini is also the Trinity Tower.
If you visit Amorgos you should not miss any events that will make you acquainted with the manners and customs of the island. There are many festivals organized in the island. This of Agii Anargyri on July 1st in Tholaria, of Agia Paraskevi on the 25th and 26th of July in Kolofana village, the festival of Panagia Epanohoriani on August 15th in Lagada, as and the festival of Agios Ioannis on the 29th of August in Vroutsi. In Chora you will also have the chance to attend the festival for Christ and the a special feast for pasteli (traditional sweet of Amorgos). Katapola host in July a feast for rakomelo (traditional drink of Amorgos). Local delicacies are offered free of charge in all of these festivals.
